About

Hi, I'm Kylie!

I'm a wife, mother, small business owner, ex-academic, gardener (vegetables and herbs of course) and foodie. I live on a quarter-acre section in Gisborne, New Zealand.

I’ve spent a large part of my career working with food - teaching and research as an academic in food engineering, working within the food industry and now teaching people how to preserve food.

I love everything about preserving my own food - the science involved in creating shelf stable food, creating new recipes, the intentional time taken to prepare them, the joy of full shelves, the challenges of something not working to plan... all of it.

I started preserving my own food because I wanted to provide healthy food for my family that wasn’t loaded with sugar and was free from unnecessary additives. Working towards this simple goal encouraged me to slow down, get back to basics, reconnect with our food supply and grow some of our own food... it's a journey and I’m loving every minute of it!

As the world has changed over the last few years, this skillset has provided my family with a lot of security and given us a buffer as food prices have inflated. But the biggest benefit has been the ease with which we can now prepare our family meals using home preserves - time-saving homemade meals that are always healthy, always delicious. I would love this for you too!
